Fossil betting on smartwatches

Watchmaker Fossil Group is shifting its focus to smartwatches and trackers, effectively trying to rebrand itself as the leader in the industry by embarking on what executives called an “unprecedented launch”. Company hopes to turn around the consistent declining revenue and sales.

Fossil’s Q Marshal and Q Wander smartwatches, which it introduced earlier this year, are going to be available for preorder starting on today. They’ll be in stores on August 29th. The watches start at $295.

Both come with always-on touchscreen displays and are compatible with both Android and iOS. The Wander comes with a gold finish and “soft curving.”

Fossil Group acquired wearables company Misfit for $260 million and is keeping the Misfit brand and product line intact and working with them to develop and release additional products in Misfit’s pipeline.

At the 2016 CES event in January, Fossil announced it would launch more than 100 connected devices, and the company plans to deliver on that with a gradual rollout in the third quarter, accelerating through the fourth for the holiday season.

Fossil CEO is Kosta Kartsotis.
