For 7th Consecutive Year, McKinney ISD Earns Highest Recognition for Accounting and Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

McKinney, Texas – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded McKinney ISD the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 2022, the most recent year evaluated by the organization.

According to the press release, it is the seventh consecutive year that the district has received the award, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting that is granted by GFOA, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment. The honor comes in response to the district’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) that was submitted to the Texas Education Agency and to GFOA last year.

“We always strive to keep our community informed,” said McKinney ISD Chief Financial Officer Marlene Harbeson. “The GFOA recognition is an indicator of our success in that endeavor, and the district is proud to receive this award for the seventh year in a row. It’s a testament to the dedication of our staff and the district’s commitment to excellence and transparency.”

The district’s ACFR was first reviewed by an independent auditor and, after submission to GFOA, was then assessed by an impartial panel of financial professionals who concluded that the document meets the high standards of their program and reflects a spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate the district’s financial story.

TEA requires that each public school district file an Annual Financial Report (AFR), but the ACFR is a voluntarily created document that goes beyond the scope of the AFR and contains some 50 additional pages of statistical data.
