Plano based retailer JCPenny is adding appliance showrooms to home departments in 500 stores this fall after testing the concept in three markets. That’s 50% of its 1000+ stores across the nation.
If anyone recalls, J.C. Penney sold appliances from 1963 to 1983, but dropped them to focus on apparel and home furnishings.
Customers also can order appliances online at jcp.com. Local stores store will have 100 to 215 appliance models on display, including refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers and washers and dryers.
J.C. Penney announced in January that it wanted to re-enter the appliance market because online shoppers searched for appliances on its website.
The company also is investing in its ability to fulfill online orders as it competes with e-commerce giant Amazon and others.
