City of Frisco confirmed four mosquito pools tested ‘positive’ for West Nile virus (WNV). This brings the number of ‘positive’ mosquito pools in Frisco this summer to eight. No human cases are confirmed here. Frisco began testing for mosquitoes May 1.
Frisco City’s line of action:
- City will spray for mosquitoes July 16 and 17. On the first evening, spraying will start at 9 p.m. Saturday and continue through 6 a.m. Sunday. Spraying will resume at 9 p.m. Sunday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday.
- The city will conduct ‘ground spraying’ to target the Frisco Lakes neighborhood. A third-party contractor will target several neighborhoods in the areas south of Warren Parkway and east of Legacy Drive (see map).

Residents need to know:
- Ground spraying involves a ‘fogger truck’, which emits a 300 foot swath of spray from the back of the vehicle. City staff recommends residents stay indoors during spraying, bring pets indoors and refresh animals’ outdoor water dishes the next morning.
- If the ‘fogger truck’ encounters pets or people, the driver will turn off the ‘fogger’ and go around the individuals or pets.
- Contractors will also use ‘backpack’ sprayers to target accessible ‘greenbelt’ areas surrounding mosquito trap sites located in the Starwood neighborhood as well as in the area immediately north and south of Little Ranch Road, between Teel Parkway and F.M. 423.

Precautionary Habits:
The City of Frisco supports four precautionary habits as promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Use approved insect repellents: Use repellent every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Follow label instructions.
- Drain standing water: Drain water that collects in cans, tires, buckets, rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.
- Wear long sleeves, pants at dawn and dusk (when mosquitoes are most active).
- Use air conditioning: Make sure doors and windows are screened – and those screens are intact.
